Police in Nainital, Uttarakhand, used lathis to disperse protesters and detained 47 individuals, who were later released. According to district police officials, the protesters had blocked the Nainital-Haldwani road near Tikoniya. After attempts by the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and City Magistrate to persuade them to clear the road failed, the police resorted to using force. Nainital SSP Pankaj Bhatt stated, "We detained 47 protesters and did not find it necessary to impose CrPC. During the scuffle, the City Magistrate, two SHOs, and a police outpost in-charge sustained injuries, but none of the protesters were injured."
