High Security and Historic Visit: Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Tripura Tour

Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Tripura on Tuesday, the state is considering tightening security as the BJP-led state government completes four years in office.

The Biplab Deb-led Indigenous People's Front of Tripura government took office on March 9, 2018, ending 25 years of consecutive Left Front rule.

West Tripura Superintendent of Police BJ Reddy, speaking to reporters after reviewing preparations at the Vivekananda Maidan, where Shah is scheduled to address a gathering on Tuesday, announced the deployment of around 800 paramilitary personnel, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

Additional forces have also been deployed at Anandanagar, on the outskirts of Agartala city, where Shah is set to lay the foundation stone for the Tripura campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). CM Deb, Union MoS for Social Empowerment and Justice Pratima Bhoumik, and others are expected to attend the event as per the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.

Shah is expected to arrive at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport at 11 am, from where he will fly to Tripurasundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati district to offer puja to the deity and unveil the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme at the shrine, according to his schedule.

The Tripurasundari temple, located 55 km southward from Agartala, is considered one of the holiest Hindu shrines in the country. It was built on the top of a hillock resembling the back of a turtle. Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Bahadur constructed the temple in 1501 after receiving a divine order from the Supreme Mother or 'Aadishakti' in his dream, as per Tripura Rajmala, the royal chronicle of Tripura's Manikya kings. The temple attracts over 2 lakh devotees and saints every year on Diwali, as well as a steady flow of tourists throughout the year.

After coming to power in 2018, the BJP-IPFT government formed a trust for the temple and audited all its assets and liabilities. The state is currently implementing a scheme to develop the shrine site and attract more devotees to boost the state's tourism industry.

Party sources have stated that Shah will be meeting party functionaries at Agartala before flying back in the afternoon.
